For some consumers, the most appropriate summertime IPE activity may be to attend summer school. Summer school may be appropriate for a consumer if:
Training grants for summer school should be processed through the DVR Training Grant portal. Schools that identify summer school as Term 1 of the academic year, may not have updated information in the training grant portal. If questions regarding Term 1 summer school arise, please contact the Financial Aid Office (FAO) mailbox at DVRFAO@dwd.wisconsin.gov.
An administrate review is only required for summer school if the consumer is attending a private or out-of-state school and it is the first term the consumer is attending at that school. Please follow Procedure and Approval for Private and Out-of-State Schools.
Administrative review is not required for any other summer terms.
An exception request is not required for summer school unless the request goes outside the DVR Fee Schedule. Review the Training Grant Exceptions Guidance (Staff Only, Internal Link) for additional information.
If an exception request is used, it is important to consider the impact of additional funding on the FAO resource determination for the rest of the academic year. For example, would additional funding for summer school produce an over-award? Contact your WDA Director/Supervisor with any questions pertaining to over-awards and exception requests.
If an exception request is required, use the exception button in the Training Grant portal in IRIS. If the exception request is denied, provide consumer their appeal rights and denial letter in writing. Attach to consumer file.
